Elijah Wood's Hobbit return

Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan will reprise their roles as Hobbits for the prequel to 'Lord of the Rings'.

Despite the characters not appearing in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel 'The Hobbit', Monaghan insists producer Peter Jackson and director Guillermo del Toro are keen to reunite the cast from the original series for the new film.

He said: "I've been chatting with Pete and the writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens about the chance of us coming back.

"We're not in 'The Hobbit,' but they really want us to come back, and I think there's a really strong chance that we might be back."

'The Hobbit' is set to be released in two parts in December 2011 and December 2012.

Mongahan has recently revealed he wants to reprise his role as Charlie Pace in hit US TV show 'Lost', despite his character being killed off in the third series.
