Ewan McGregor was so desperate to work with old pal Hilary Swank in the new Amelia Earhart biopic, he jetted between two movie sets at the same time.

The Scot feared he'd have to pass on the role of the aviator's lover Gene Vidal because he was shooting I Love You, Phillip Morris with Jim Carrey at the same time.

But movie executives were able to schedule shoots around him as he dashed from set to set.

McGregor explains, "Hilary Swank... has been a good friend of mine for years, and we've always talked about working together. I suppose we kind of kept our eyes open for something.

"She called me about Amelia just as I arrived to start shooting I Love You, Phillip Morris, and we struggled for quite some time, but I really wanted to make it work dates-wise.

"So I literally made the two films at the same time, flying back and forth from Toronto."

The movie is directed by Mira Nair and looks at the life of legendary American pilot Amelia Earhart, who disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 in an attempt to make a flight around the world.

Amelia is released 13th November
