Ewan McGregor has told fans not to 'hold their breath' for a Trainspotting sequel.

The actor shot to fame in Danny Boyle's drug themed movie in 1996, which was based on the Irvine Welsh novel of the same name.

Despite the film's now cult success McGregoris unsure whether a sequel would be a good idea.

In an interview with Cinemablend the actor said: "I'm not sure I'd want to do a sequel to Trainspotting, just because I think Trainspotting is very important.

"It was an important film for British cinema, and I wouldn't want to tarnish its reputation by making a poor sequel.

"That's not to say they couldn't write a great script, because they could do that. But I wouldn't hold your breath."

2010 looks set to be a busy year for the actor with a string of movies on the way. The Ghost Writer and I Love You Phillip Morris will be the first to arrive in cinemas.

The Ghost Writer sees him work alongside Pierce Brosnan in Roman Polanski's latest movie while I Love You Phillip Morris sees him team up with Jim Carrey.
