Forest Whitaker has been cast in 'The Expendables'.

'The Last King of Scotland' actor will star alongside Sylvester Stallone - who has also written the script and is directing the production - Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Randy Couture, in the action movie.

The film follows the story of a team of mercenaries as they head to the fictional South American republic of Corza while on a mission to overthrow a corrupt dictator.

Oscar-winner Whitaker is set to play the group's CIA liaison officer.

Filming is set to begin in March this year and it is due to hit cinema screens in 2010.

The actor is also working on 'What A Wonderful World', a biopic of jazz star Louis Armstrong.
