Clooney Asked To End Conflict

Hollywood star George Clooney has been invited by Nigerian rebels to act as a mediator in the ongoing conflict in Nigeria. The conflict is between the country's government and its rebels. The rebels are an armed group who are protesting against the authorities. Members from the movement called Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta wrote an an open letter to the actor to help in negotiations between themselves and their government. The letter says: "Mr Clooney, MEND extends an invitation to you to see things for yourself and is willing to work with you and other credible peace makers of international repute to stop Nigeria from plunging into the abyss of war."On friday 18th January Clooney was named a United Nations Messenger Of Peace. The MEND have been making headlines since 2006 for their bomb attacks on oil facilities of the African country and for kidnapping foreign workers in their efforts to secure control over the region's oil.
