Greta Gerwig has revealed that she is nervous about taking on Liza Minelli's role in the remake of Arthur.

The movie will see her team up with funnyman Russell Brand and Oscar winner Helen Mirren for the twenty first century remake of Dudley Moore's classic.

And while Gerwig's friends believes she couldn't be as good as Minnelli the actress reveals that she is not trying to be the Cabaret star.

Speaking to Digital Spy he said: All of my gay theatre friends told me that I couldn't possibly be as great as Liza. I told them, 'I'm not trying to be as great as Liza. Nobody could be as great as Liza. I don't think that I am!'

"They're like, 'Good, you're not!' I'm well aware that I will never live up to her but I'm very honoured that I get to play the same role she did."

Gerwig may have made her big screen debut in LOL back in 2006 but it was her performance alongside Ben Stiller in Greenberg earlier this year which had made everyone sit up and take notice.

Gerwig is currently filming Arthur but she has No Strings, which also stars Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, and The Dish & The Spoon in post production.
