Guy Pearce knew that 'The King's Speech' was "special" when he was filming it.

The 43-year-old actor, who plays King Edward VIII in the Academy Award-nominated movie, said he knew it would end up a success.

You work on things and you have such faith in them while you're making them that everything feels special - in a way.

He said: "You work on things and you have such faith in them while you're making them that everything feels special - in a way. Some feel more special than others and this definitely felt more special than other things I've worked on."

The 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert' star credited the on-screen chemistry of his co-stars Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush with making the film a hit.

He explained: "The relationship between Geoffrey and Colin seemed so natural and I just thought, 'Wow, this is great chemistry. It's really going to be fantastic on screen.' "

However, Guy's gut instincts aren't always correct, and he admits that some good experiences on the set of his past films haven't always translated onto the big screen.

He said: "You also can't really tell. You can have a great time on a film and the chemistry can seem great but then you look at the finished film and it just doesn't quite gel. Something doesn't quite work.

"So there a bit of a mystical entity, film. You never quite know, really."
