Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has dedicated this year's (09) Thanksgiving celebrations to her late father - because the holiday has fallen on what would have been his 66th birthday.
The Iron Man star was devastated when Bruce Paltrow passed away in 2002 following a battle with oral cancer, while he was in Rome, Italy celebrating his daughter's 30th birthday.
And the actress admits this year's holiday is particularly poignant for her and her family.
And Happy Thanksgiving everybody
She writes in her Goop.com newsletter, "I dedicate this Thanksgiving letter, on parental acceptance, to my father, who would have been 66 today. He was the greatest parent, friend, rabbi any girl could ever have asked for. Happy Birthday Bruce. And Happy Thanksgiving everybody."
In other celebrity Thanksgiving news Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas took to the streets of Los Angeles on Wednesday (25Nov09) to serve up a Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless.
The 92 year old and his wife, Anne, joined hundreds of other volunteers at the Los Angeles Mission to dish out turkey meals to the needy, a day before the official American holiday.
Other celebrities who took part in the event include High School Musical star Corbin Bleu and Star Trek's Zoe Saldana.
Douglas and his wife, who founded the mission's Anne Douglas Center, which helps train homeless women to get them back into employment, said in a statement, "My wife has been trying to help the women that have been forced onto the streets, and she is determined to give them a better life through the Anne Douglas Center where they have programs that improve and rebuild their lives. We gladly come to serve men and women at Thanksgiving time to give them a good meal and strengthen their desire for a brighter future."
