Dame Helen Mirren has joined Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman in a movie adaptation of popular comic series Red.

The Queen actress is part of an all-star cast for the film, which will be based on the three graphic novels about a retired CIA agent who is targeted by a hitman.

The movie is expected to be released in November next year (10), reports trade paper Daily Variety.

It's been a fairly quiet year for the actress with just one movie release, which came in the form of State of Play earlier this summer.

She joined Russell Crowe, ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams in a big screen adaptation of the hit BBC TV show.

However there is plenty on the horizon for the Oscar winner with The Last Station, a biographical film about Leo Tolstoy, in which she will play Tolstoy's wife.

Also coming up is The Tempest, in which she will take on the central character Prospera, the gender of main character Prospero was changed to Prospera so Mirren could take the role.
