Actress Helena Bonham Carter was named Best Actress at the Evening Standard British Film Awards.The forty one year old, and new mum, was recognised for her role as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and for her low key role in Conversations With Other Women.Best Actor went to Oscar favourite Daniel Day Lewis for his performance as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.He has already won the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild for the role as the Texan oil prospector. He is also nominated for next weekend's Bafta's.Other Oscar favourite, for her role in Away From Her, Julie Christie was presented with the Alexander Walker Award for outstanding contribution to film to honour a career that has lasted five decades.There was a surprise win for Control which scooped Best Film, beating There Will Be Blood and Golden Globe Best Picture winner Atonement.The film documents the short life of Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis who committed suicide aged just twenty three.The film also took best screenplay.Full list of winners:
