Iron Man Blasts To Top Of UK Box Office

Iron Man follows up success in America and Australia by topping the UK chart grossing £5.4 million in it's opening weekend.The film which stars Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow broke the $100 million barrier in it's first three days in America making it one of the most successful marvel Comic adaptations.Robert Downey Jr is to take the lead role as Iron Man aka Tony Stark. Stark is a billionaire weapons manufacturer who is injured by a landmine. He is captured by Afgan forces and a dying Stark is forced to build them a weapon. He builds a suit which acts as a defence for Stark who escapes and returns to the America where he improves his design and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.Last week's number one Forgetting Sarah Marshall falls down one place to number two after just one week at number one grossing £1.3 million.Family film Nim's Island, starring Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler was another new entry at number three with a third, Made of Honour, in at number four.Last week's number two The Eye, which stars Jessica Alba, fell three places to number five to round off the top five.Fool's Gold was the biggest faller of the week moving from number four to number eight.

British movie Happy-Go-Lucky moved up one place from ten to nine to make way for the final new entry, French animation Persepolis, which entered the chart at number ten.
