The writer and director of 'Donnie Darko' has distanced himself from the movie's sequel.'S Darko' is being made seven years after the original movie was released, but without original cast members Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal and Drew BarrymoreChris Fisher has taken over production duties from Richard Kelly, who has refused to be involved with the sequel.Posting on his MySpace page, Richard wrote: "To set the record straight, here's a few facts I'd like to share with you all: I haven't read this script. I have absolutely no involvement with this production, nor will I ever be involved. I have no control over the rights from our original film, and neither I nor my producing partner, Sean McKittrick, stand to make any money from this film."Meanwhile, the movie's star Briana Evigan has revealed one original feature of 'Donnie Darko will return. She told MTV: "Frank the giant rabbit guy will return. It's really cool looking. It's scary."Briana plays the best friend of Samantha Darco - played once again by Daveigh Chase - and explained how the movie follows on from the first. She added: "This is a sequel to 'Donnie Darko' and it's so crazy, It's basically about going back in time and changing what happened in the first one.
"My character is named Corey, she's a selfish, bada*s kind of girl. She ends up switching a moment in time to take her life to help somebody else, her best friend. It goes into all different dimensions, but it's really about turning something around for somebody else, and being able to go back and have another chance."
Insisting the movie can be a success and saying the cast are "having fun", Briana added: "It's a really cool, fun script. But it's darker, and I hope everybody understands it."
