Jamie Bell is to play Tintin in the forthcoming movie.

The 'Billy Elliot' star is set to team up with his 'Defiance' co-star for the forthcoming Steven Spielberg adaptation of the cartoon favourite, which is due for release in 2011.

Jamie will play the titular boy detective, while Daniel is to portray villainous pirate captain Red Rackham in 'The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn', which follows Tintin discovering secret directions to a hidden treasure.

The pair join several people already cast, including 'Lord of the Rings' actor Andy Serkis, who is playing Captain Haddock, 'Sean of the Dead' stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who are to portray detective brothers Thomson and Thomson and 'Pirates of the Caribbean''s Mackenzie Crook.

Thomas Sangster had been due to play the title character but pulled out because of other commitments.

'The Secret of the Unicorn' is expected to be the first in a series of movies, with Peter Jackson being lined up to direct a sequel.
