Jay Baruchel has called Nicolas Cage a kindred spirit.

The young actor has described himself as 'odd' but was happy to work alongside an actor who shared his mentality as they filmed The sorcerer's Apprentice.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I'm as odd as they come!

"I was happy to find out that we were kindred spirits, we both march to the beat of our own drum, shall we say, and we were just two square pegs that got along real well," he explained.

"We became pretty fast friends you know, our conversations on set would run the nerdy gamete from the advent of industrial music to Hitler's obsession with the occult.

"We covered it all, we just spoke dork for six months!"

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is based on the Mickey Mouse sequence from Fantasia and reunites Cage with National Treasure Jon Turteltaub.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is released 13th August.
