Broadway and West End hit musical Jersey Boys is set to be adapted into a major movie.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were both in talks to oversee the transition of the show from stage to screen - but it is The Departed producer Graham King who will tackle the project, according to Deadline Hollywood.

King, whose company GK Films will oversee the film, says, "(It) has all the ingredients to become a big commercial hit movie."

And Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio from The Four Seasons, the band the musical story is based on, are delighted King's company will be in charge of the picture.

Valli says, "We are extremely excited about the passion and commitment expressed by GK Films to take Jersey Boys to another level. Graham King has been a believer from day one. We are in good hands."
