Joaquin Phoenix has announced that he will never return to acting as he has turned his attention on a music career.

Rumours have circulated that his rap career was a joke but the Oscar nominated star has insisted that his next movie Two Lovers will be his last.

In an interview with The AP Phoenix said: "I'm not one of those people, like, when I break up with my girlfriend, I don't ever see her again.

"I see her as friends, but do I ever think about getting back together? No, when I do something, I do it. So I have no intention."

Phoenix began his career in television back in 1982 but it was his role in Ridley Scott's Gladiator in 2000 that brought him critical acclaim and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.

However the role he is most associated with is Walk the Line, where he took on the role of country legend Johnny Cash, a second Oscar nomination came his way for Best Actor.

Back in May 2008 is was announced that Phoenix had been recording some songs with Mike Fox of Little Knickers and Tim Burgess from The Charlatans.
