Josh Brolin understands "sad and a little pathetic" characters.
Josh - who portrayed US President George W. Bush in 'W.' and Dan White, who murdered America's first openly gay politician Harvey Milk, in biopic 'Milk' - was able to empathise with both men.
Josh, 40, said: "I don't hate either one of them personally. I find them both very sad and a little pathetic. I feel like I understand them.
Once you humanise them you start to think, 'Oh, are they totally to blame?' With the pressures Dan White had - he tried to resign and they didn't let him
"Once you humanise them you start to think, 'Oh, are they totally to blame?' With the pressures Dan White had - he tried to resign and they didn't let him. So what best to do in order to do something tangible? Grab a gun. Load the gun. Point the gun. Shoot the gun. Kill the person."
'Milk' directed by Gus Van Sant also Sean Penn - who portrays Henry Milk - Emile Hirsch and James Franco.
