The 41-year-old actor - best known for his character Sawyer in US TV show 'Lost' - is in final negotiations for a role as a secret agent in the movie franchise, headed by Tom Cruise, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog.
A number of stars including Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg has all recently signed up for the Brad Bird-directed project, which begins shooting this autumn ahead of a December 2011 release.
It would be a big-screen debut for Holloway, although it would mark the second time he was worked with J. J. Abrams, who created 'Lost' and is producing 'Mission: Impossible 4'.
He has previously had to pass on big movies because of the shooting schedule for the island-based TV show.
Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum have written the script for the film, which is shooting in Vancouver, Prague and Dubai.
