Julianne Moore "hated" dyeing her red hair for new movie 'Blindness'.

The actress insists a drastic change of appearance - which required her to go blonde - was necessary for the role, but says she wasn't keen on her new light locks.

Julianne, who plays the wife of an optician who loses his sight in the new film, said: "I've always used wigs for roles in the past. But for this role I didn't feel I could get away with a wig. And my red hair would have been wrong, too bright. There was a reason for it.

But, personally, I hated dyeing it

"People who aren't naturally blonde need to maintain it and you need time and money to maintain it a lot. So that told you something about this woman who was thrust into this awful situation. But, personally, I hated dyeing it. It was a pain."

Julianne also revealed she will never stop starring in movies because there is nothing she likes more.

She added: "I like film better than anything else. There's a suspension of disbelief. And when I work, I'll do things I won't do in my own life. I don't even like catching balls. But if I have to do it in a movie, I'll do it.

"I'll go much further in a movie than I will in real life."
