Producers didn't expect Leonardo DiCaprio to agree to star in 'Shutter Island'.
The movie's producer Brad Fischer classes the 'Titanic' star as one of the "greatest actors" in the world, and admits everyone was surprised when he said yes to the role of US Marshal Teddy Daniels in the mysterious thriller.
Brad said: "You send it (the script), and you don't really expect to get a yes. Then we got a yes.
"You know, Leo is one of the greatest actors of his generation. I thought the character of Teddy Daniels was just something he could bring a lot to, and he hadn't really done something like that before.
You send it (the script), and you don't really expect to get a yes. Then we got a yes.
"I mean it's a great role because there are so many levels to it and so many nuances."
Brad is full of praise for the 35-year-old actor and has compared him to a young Robert De Niro.
He added: "Talking about Leo as one of the greatest actors of his generation, he's like Robert De Niro in that respect, for sure."
'Shutter Island' sees Leonardo's character Teddy investigate the disappearance of a murderer who escapes from a mental hospital.
He recently revealed that he got wetter on the set of 'Shutter Island' than he did playing Jack Dawson in 'Titanic'.
Leonardo said: "There were wind machines blasting everything at us. We had more water thrown over us than I have ever known. It was worst than 'Titanic'! Then we had live rats thrown at us.
"It was tough, especially having to give three pages of dialogue at the same time."
