Lily Cole has landed the lead role in a student play at Britain's prestigious Cambridge University.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus star is studying History of Art at the establishment and she's using her spare time to tackle an amateur production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull.

Cole, who also appeared in 2007 movie St. Trinian's, will take on the role of Nina, who dreams of becoming an actress - a part which Carey Mulligan played on the Broadway stage in 2007.

A spokesman for the university's theatre tells Britain's Daily Mail, "Everyone is acting in their spare time and for free, and it's great she is doing that too, especially when - as a celebrity - she could be doing paid work."

We haven't seen Cole on the big screen since The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - which saw her work alongside Heath Ledger and Christopher Plummer.

But she has already completed work on The Moth Diaries and There Be Dragons with Charlie Cox and Dougray Scott.
