Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg signed up to star in police comedy The Other Guys without even reading the script.

The Departed star appears alongside Will Ferrell in the new buddy cop film, marking the action man's first leading role in a comedy.

But Wahlberg admits he didn't need to think twice about his next career move when he was presented with the movie idea by the funnyman
and his frequent collaborator, writer/director Adam McKay, so he agreed to take on the project as soon as he was asked.

He tells America's Globe tabloid, "Will and Adam McKay, the director, took me to dinner and asked if I wanted to do this movie. I said, 'Fantastic! I'm in!' And they're like, 'Well, don't you want to read it?' And I said, 'No, I trust you guys.'"

The Other Guys is the second comedy of the year for Wahlberg after starring in Date Night alongside Steve Carrell and Tina Fey as the actor branches out into a genre that he has never really tackled.

But it's back to drama next for the Oscar nominee as he takes on the role of Boxer Mickey Ward in The Fighter, which also stars Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

The Other Guys is released 3rd September.
