Matt Damon found shooting on 'Contagion' was like making a film with friends in a backyard because the director Steven Soderbergh likes to edit as he goes.

Matt Damon felt like he was "making a movie in the backyard" on the set of 'Contagion'.

The 40-year-old actor - who stars alongside Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in the pandemic thriller - admits the process of shooting with Steven Soderbergh made it feel like an amateur film because they were always running over the footage at the end of the day.

He said: "Working with Steven is very different from working with anybody else. To give you an example of a day, we go and we shoot. We'd talk about what we were going to do, we'd figure it out, we'd execute the plan, and then we'd go back to the hotel and go to the bar.

"And in the back room of the bar, we'd sit there and talk while Steven put on headphones and opened up his laptop and sat in the corner for 45 minutes or an hour. And then, at the end, he'd take his headphones off and he'd turn the computer around, and he'd show us what we shot that day, cut. So when you're working that way, it's like making a movie in your backyard with your friends."

The Oscar-winning star is best known for his action roles in movies including 'The Adjustment Bureau' and 'Ocean's Eleven', but reveals he is happy to take on any part providing it is well written in the script.

He told Buzzinefilm.com: "If the director is good and the script is good, it all comes pretty naturally, and if those things aren't in place, it's impossible no matter what the role is."
