McG has won the chance to direct the film version of Hasbro game 'Ouija', described as a fusion of 'The Mummy' and 'Indiana Jones'.

McG has signed on to direct 'Ouija'.

The 'Terminator Salvation' filmmaker will helm the Universal adaptation of the Hasbro game having beaten 'The Crazies' director Breck Eisner, who was also in contention.

'Ouija' concerns conjuring up dead spirits and according to Heat Vision Blog the film is described as a supernatural adventure centred around a family and has influences from both 'The Mummy' and the 'Indiana Jones' franchise.

The movie has been written by 'Tron: Legacy' scribes Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, while Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes will produce the project.

'Ouija' is currently set for release on November 9, 2012 and according to Total Film, Universal are planning to turn the movie into a franchise should it be well received.

McG - born Joseph McGinty Nichol - began his career with Cameron Diaz action comedy 'Charlie's Angels' and it's follow-up 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle'.

He is currently shooting 'This Means War' - about two spies who fall in love with the same woman - starring Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon.
