Michael Bay blasted Paramount staff over their handling of 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'.

The award-winning director - who recently ruled out making a third instalment in the film franchise - wrote a strong-worded email to the studio to criticise the poor promotion of his latest movie.

The message - which was penned in May - read: "Am I missing something? I've been locked away editing for six months, but I have been waiting, and waiting for the 'anticipation' of an 'event movie' to make it into the 'public zeitgeist.' You all talk so glowingly about Transformers being the movie of the summer but unfortunately this has not gotten to the public."

I appreciate all the hard, dedicated work everyone did so far to make this a great success

Michael, 44, directed his query at company boss Brad Grey and called the publicity campaign an "abject failure".

He added: "I cannot figure if this is a cash issue with your company? Is there some clever idea why we are not spending? I'm not sure.

"I'm sure though, the movie will do fine, but not to your internal expectations because right now we are fooling ourselves by being cocky."

However, a second email published by TMZ.com - written on June 4 - indicates the director was pleased with the final promotional push.

He wrote: "You have treated me so well. Paramount is like family. Thank you all for busting your butts and bringing your 'A game' for the release of 'Transformers'. I appreciate all the hard, dedicated work everyone did so far to make this a great success."
