Michael Fassbender is rumoured to be the favourite to replace George Clooney in a big screen remake of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Clooney was set to take on the role of Napoleon Solo in the Steven Soderbergh directed movie until he was forced to drop out earlier this month.

Fassbender has already worked with Soderbergh on movie Haywire, which is set to hit the big screen later this year, and is currently the favourite to take over the role.

The likes of Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio are all also thought to be under consideration.

Fassbender is hot property at the moment and has had a great 2011 going from big budget blockbuster X-Men First Class to period drama Jane Eyre, where he puts in an excellent turn as Edward Rochester.

And he has been under the spotlight in the last couple of weeks on the festival circuit with his new project Shame - winning Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival.

He will also be starring in A Dangerous Method with Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley in the new year.
