Frostnixon star Michael Sheen hopes British soccer icon Brian Clough's family finally gets to see his portrayal of the sports star - because it'snot as controversial as they think it is.

The Welsh actor reveals the late Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Leeds United manager's family refused to take a look at the script for The Damned United and turned down invites to see previews of the film.

Sheen can understand why they were dead set against the idea of seeing the movie, but he hopes they've since had the chance to check it out.

His family were against the film because they were veryagainst the book that it was an adaptation of

He tells FemaleFirst, "His family were against the film because they were veryagainst the book that it was an adaptation of. The book is a very dark portrayal of Brian and we tried to celebrate him more in the film, but I understood why the family were very wary of the film. "We offered to send them a copy of the script and they didn't want to look at that and we offered them private screenings of the film, but they didn't want that either.

I hope they've seen the film since and realised we weren't trying to make him look bad".
