Michelle Pfeiffer was so dedicated to 'Cheri' she swamped the scriptwriter with text messages.
The 51-year-old actress - who stars alongside Rupert Friend in the movie - was so determined to understand her character she would regularly contact Christopher Hampton for extra insight.
He said: "Her habit was that she would send me lots of texts. Just when I'd got back to the hotel and thought I could put my feet up, I'd get a text from Michelle going, 'I don't really understand this sequence...what do you think about that?' "

Although he says he didn't have Michelle in mind for the role when he was writing the script, the 63-year-old writer - who also penned 'Atonement' - says she was perfect for the part.
He told BANG Showbiz: "We didn't have anyone in mind. But what did actually happen was when we were going through the possibilities and Michelle was as perfect as could be. She was the first and only actress that we saw for the part. It is hard to imagine anyone else doing it now.
"She was exactly the right age, and she understood the role so well. You know how actors are - I think by halfway through the film she thought it was all about her!"
'Cheri' sees Michelle play the role of Lea, a wealthy courtesan who is having a relationship with a colleagues much-younger son, played by Rupert, 27.
