Philip Seymour Hoffman has denied rumours he will be starring as The Penguin in the next 'Batman' film. The 'Capote' actor said he had never even met 'The Dark Knight' director Christopher Nolan, despite Michael Caine - who plays Alfred in the films - recently claiming he would play the villain. He said: "No one has talked to me about it ever. It happened five years ago, too. It was a rumour back then and it's still a rumour. It's funny."The 41-year-old actor said he would much rather watch someone else play the villain because he is such a huge fan of the comic book franchise. He added: "I'm more a fan, so the interest of being in it isn't that great. It's more the interest in wanting to see the next one. It's probably better that way."I don't know if I'd be a good Penguin to be quite honest."Michael Caine told MTV earlier this week that both Philip and Johnny Depp were set to star in the next instalment of the franchise.

He said: "I was with a Warner Bros. executive and I said, 'Are we going to make another one?' They said, 'Yeah'. I said, 'How the hell are we going to top Heath Ledger as The Joker? And he says, 'I'll tell you how you top Heath - Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.' I said, 'S**t, they've done it again!' "
