It seems that nowadays you can bet on anything out there. Whether it’s who’ll win the football to celebrity big brother it seems that online gambling isn’t taking a downturn just yet.
With that in mind, Paddy Power, one of the UK’s biggest online betting companies has decided to offer odds on how much money Avatar will make at the box offices this weekend.
Or to me more specific, the Italian box office.
This comes in reaction to the Vatican publicly disapproving of the sci-fi epic, saying the movie would promote nature as “a new divinity”.
We’re not condoning betting, but it may just be worth the 7/2 odds to see if the Pope does publicly denounce Avatar.
After just a month out at the cinema, the website is already giving out odds as to whether the film will break all records and beat Titanic overall, with the not particularly huge odds of 15/8 meaning you’ll only get £15 back for every £8 you put on.
Not only that, but budding betters can also place bets as to how the film will do at both the Golden Globes and the Oscars, with the company giving odds of up to 8/1 for it to win both 'Best Motion Picture: Drama' Golden Globe & 'Best Picture' Oscar.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: "Avatar might have failed to impress Vatican City but it's still on track to become the highest grossing movie of all time and is now a leading contender to win this years big movie accolades including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award."
Might be worth a punt if you’re feeling lucky and want to make back that Christmas shopping budget.
