Resident Evil: Afterlife

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Resident Evil: Afterlife has seen off any and all competition to take the #1 spot at the U.S. box office.

The movie is the fourth in the Resident Evil franchise, the most successful of the computer game to screen movies in recent years, as Milla Jovovich returns to the central role of Alice.

In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice (Jovovich), continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety.

Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead - and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

Taking $27.7 million in the opening weekend the movie comfortably took the top spot and was the only new entry inside the top ten this week.

Takers was up one place from three to this week's number two while The American, the new movie from George Clooney fell two places to three after just a single week at number one.
