Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel Plans

Ridley Scott has revealed details of his prequel to 'Alien'.

The director hinted his film will not be a straightforward telling of how the aliens from his original film came to be in deep space, with the film taking place much earlier than the original.

He said: "It's a brand new box of tricks. We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It's very difficult to put a year on 'Alien', but for example if 'Alien' was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior."

Ridley surprised the film world when he announced he will return to one of his best known films, and said he was intrigued by the concept of creating a prequel.

He said: "I never thought I'd look forward to a sequel. But a prequel is kind of interesting. I'm looking forward to doing that"

The concept established by Ridley in 'Alien' was continued in three later films, 'Aliens', 'Alien 3' and 'Alien Resurrection', none of which were helmed by Ridley.
