Robert Rodriguez To Direct Deadpool?

Robert Rodriguez could be on the verge of signing on to direct Deadpool.

Deadpool is the latest spin off movie which would see Ryan Reynolds return to the title character after being introduced in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Rodriguez had been linked to the project in the early stages of development but with his plate full with Predator and Machete, as well as having Spy Kids 4 on the horizon it seemed unlikely.

But, according to the L.A. Times Rodriguez is reportedly in talks for the filmmaker to helm the project when he has completed work on Spy Kids 4.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who were behind Zombieland, are reportedly already working on a script and Deadpool could reach cinema screens as early as 2012.

Machete will be Rodriguez's first movie since Shorts back in 2009 after serving as executive producer on Predators this summer.
