Jim Broadbent Defends Moors Murders Film.Oscar-winning actor JIM BROADBENT has defended his new TV movie about notorious British child killers the 'Moors Murderers' MYRA HINDLEY and IAN BRADY.Relatives of the pair's five victims are angry about the film, which marks the 40th anniversary of Hindley and Brady's trial.SAMANTHA MORTON, who plays Hindley, has been singled out for particular criticism.But Broadbent, who plays politician LORD LONGFORD in the film, LONGFORD, insists it isn't sensationalist.Longford focuses on the peer's relationship with Hindley - he long campaigned for her release, until his death in 2001.Describing his character as "a profoundly religious man who believed in the power of forgiveness", Broadbent says, "This is a serious film about Longford and his relationship with Myra Hindley. It is not a sensational look at the moors murders."He adds, "There is always going to be a reaction when there's a mention of Myra Hindley and the press are going to overreact to some extent. There is a sort of feeding frenzy, and any mention of Hindley can get that famous photo on the front page again."

Hindley and Brady kidnapped and killed five children between 1963 and 1965, before burying them on Saddleworth Moor in Yorkshire, England.

Hindley died of a heart attack in prison aged 60. Brady, aged 68, is still in prison.
