A third movie in the 'Scarface' gangster series is being developed by Universal Pictures.

A new 'Scarface' movie is being developed.

Universal Pictures has been meeting with writers to prepare a script for the project, first released in 1932 before the 1983 version starring Al Pacino as gangster Tony Montana, a Cuban man who takes over the drugs trade in Miami.

say hello to my little friend

The film will not be a remake or a sequel, but will maintain some of the elements made popular in the first two, included an immigrant seeking a twisted version of the American dream.

Specifics about where the lead character will come from - or who plays him - are not yet known.

Marc Shmuger and Martin Bregman will produce the project, Deadline.com reports.

The 1983 version of 'Scarface' - which also starred Michelle Pfeiffer and Steven Bauer and was directed by Brian De Palma - made $65 million worldwide upon its release, and has since sold 10 million DVD copies.

It was nominated for three Golden Globes and made the phrase "say hello to my little friend" into a popular line.
