The King And I

The King And I

Now I have to admit that I am not the biggest musical fan in the world but there is one in particular that I am quite fond of and that is The King and I.

The Walter Lang directed movies remains one of the greatest in this genre and is one of the most iconic movies of that decade,

Five years after it was a hit on Broadway it was a hit on the big screen as it gave actor Yul Brynner his most memorable role.

The King of Siam was to be the role that defined his career as well as brought him as Oscar.

Visually the movie is stunning but the whole piece is brought to life by the terrific score by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The performances are superb and there is real chemistry between Brynner and Deborah Kerr as the two continuously butt heads before developing a great relationship.

And it is this central relationship that really pushes the movie forwards and is it's great strength - the dance scene being a particular favourite between the pair.

This is a movie that is just so full of life it may have a Hollywood shine to it but it is a great watch.
