The comedy actor, who recently co-presented the Academy Awards with Alec Baldwin, would star alongside Jack Black and Owen Wilson in the film, which begins shooting in Canada in May.
The movie is based on Mark Obmascik book 'The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession' and tells the story of three men who are desperate to out-do each other in a bird-watching competition to find rare species in North America, Hollywood Reporter states.
'The Big Year' is being directed by 'The Devil Wears Prada' filmmaker David Frankel, while Karen Rosenfelt, Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld are all working as producers.
Steve's film career has slowed in recent years, starring in 'It's Complicated' with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin in 2009 and 'The Pink Panther 2' as Closeau.
This year he is filming comedy movie 'Topper', directed by Adam Shankman.
