Steven Soderbergh has signed up to direct 'Knockout'.

The 'Ocean's Eleven' director's next project will see him work on the spy thriller movie, which is due to mark the first acting role for US martial arts fighter Gina Carano.

Steven, 46, plans to begin work overseeing the project - which will be financed by Relativity Media - from January.

The storyline will follow Gina's character, a young woman with a troubled past, as she tries to correct her previous mistakes and use her skills constructively.

Filming will take place in Ireland, the US and Turkey.

Lem Dobbs - who previously worked with Steven on 'Kafka' and 'The Limey' - is in charge of the script.

In the meantime, Steven's Warner Brothers comedy 'The Informant!', starring Matt Damon, is due to premiere at the Venice Film Festival before it hits cinemas in the US on September 18.
