Takers narrowly edged out The Last Exorcism this weekend as both movies battled to top the U.S. box office.
The heist movie brings together a great ensemble cast that includes Idris Elba, Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown and Michael Ealy.
A seasoned team of bank robbers, including Gordon Jennings (Idris Elba), John Rahway (Paul Walker), A.J. (Hayden Christensen), and brothers Jake (Michael Ealy) and Jesse Attica (Chris Brown) successfully complete their latest heist and lead a life of luxury while planning their next job.
When Ghost (Tip T.I. Harris), a former member of their team, is released from prison he convinces the group to strike an armoured car carrying $20 million.
As the "takers" carefully plot out their strategy and draw nearer to exacting the grand heist, a reckless police officer (Matt Dillon) inches closer to apprehending the criminals.
The movie took $20.5 million this weekend to topple The Expendables and hold off the tough competition from The Last Exorcism. The horror movie took $20.3 million and had to settle for second place.
The Expendables dropped two places to number two while Eat Pray Love fell a single place from three to four. There was no movement at five as The Other Guys held on.
Vampire's Suck was one of the biggest fallers this week as it dropped four places from two to this week's number six while Inception was up from nine to seven and has now grossed an impressive $271 million at the U.S. box office alone.
Nanny McPhee dropped just a single place to number eight while the bad news for Jennifer Aniston and The Switch kept on coming as it dropped to nine and looks like it will fall out of the top ten next week.
Piranha 3D was another four place faller as it dropped for six to ten.
