Brad Pitt and David Fincher's latest collaboration The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has stormed to the top of the UK box office grossing over £2.2 million in it's opening weekend.

The epic film is based on the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald and tells the story of a man who ages backwards. The film is the frontrunner at the Oscars with thirteen nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

Just piped to the top spot was comedy He's Not That Into You, which brings together a great ensemble cast of Jennifer Aniston, Justin Long, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson and Ben Affleck.

Despite dominating the Baftas at the weekend Slumdog Millionaire couldn't hold on to the number one spot as it fell two places to number three. The top three movies were the only films to break the £1 million barrier.

Tom Cruise's World War II drama also fell two places from two to four while Revolutionary Road rounded off the top five, also dropping two places from number three.

Fantasy movie The Secret of Moonacre could only open at number seven while multiple Oscar nominated Doubt, which stars Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman could only manage number ten.
