The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has made it three weeks at the top of the UK box office.

The Peter Jackson directed movie took a further £6.8 million over the new year to comfortably hold off the challenge from Life of Pi.

There was also no move at number two as Life of Pi, which is directed by Ang Lee, stayed put.

Tom Cruise's new movie Jack Reacher was the highest new entry on the chart at number three while Pitch perfect was up one at four.

Parental Guidance - which sees Billy Crystal join forces with Bette Midler - was the second and final new entry in at five.

Rise of the Guardians was out of the top five this week as it fell three places from three to six.

Skyfall broke the £100 million mark at the UK box office over Christmas and is fell just one place to seven.

The movie also broke the $100m barrier at the global box office to become only the third film of the year to achieve this - Avengers Assemble and The Dark Knight Rises being the other two.

Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings was down one at eight while Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger was down five at nine.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 rounded off the top ten this week as it dropped just a single place from last week's nine.
