The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has made it four weeks at the top of the UK box office as it narrowly held off The Impossible.

The Peter Jackson movie took a further £4 million this weekend and has taken £44 million in the UK alone during its four week run.

The Impossible was the highest new entry on the chart this week as it opened at number two.

The film follows one family's experience of the 2004 Tsunami and sees Juan Antonio Bayona back in the director's chair.

Life of Pi fell just a single place to number three while Quartet was another new entry at number four.

The movie marks the directorial debut of Dustin Hoffman and brings together a great cast that includes Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly and Pauline Collins.

Jack Reacher fell two place as it rounded off the top five.

Pitch Perfect, Parental Guidance and Rise of the Guardians were all also down two places at six, seven and eight.

Skyfall continues to have a presence in the top ten at number nine while Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings was down two at ten.
