Tim Burton names 'Alice'.

A previously unknown Australian girl has been picked to play the lead role in 'Alice in Wonderland'.Director Tim Burton has picked Mia Wasikowska to play the lead role in his film adaptation of the Lewis Carroll novel. The children's story follows a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in a fantasy world inhabited by strange creatures.Speaking of the role, Wasikowska said: "I'm so, so excited. The book's really intrigued me when I was little and I've always loved the story." Wasikowska, 18, has formerly appeared on TV in the series 'All Saints' and 'In Treatment'. Her film work includes 'Amelia' in which she plays opposite Hilary Swank and she also has a part in forthcoming film 'Defiance', which stars Daniel Craig. Burton is reportedly aiming to cast Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in the film.
