Tobey Maguire will star as a Formula One driver in a new movie.

The 'Spider-Man' actor has signed up to appear in forthcoming biopic 'The Limit' which tells the story of real-life friends and racing rivals Phil Hill and Wolfgang von Trips.

The pair were pitted against each other when they drove for the Ferrari team in 1961 in a toughly-fought battle which ended in tragedy.

Toby is set to play Phil, the only American to ever win the World Dirvers' Championship.

The movie - which will be scripted by 'Sherlock Holmes' writer Tony Peckham - is based on Michael Cannell's new book 'Limit'.

Tobey will co-produce the film with Jenno Topping and Cathy Schulman.

No other casting details have been confirmed.
