Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy beat major box office rivals this weekend and overcame the worst UK snowfall for 100 years to become the UK’s Number 1 film.

With a total of almost £2 million, Tron: Legacy accounted for 30% of the total UK box office, and was 70% above its closest rival, demonstrating the movie’s pull on fans, determined not to be left out in the cold to miss 'the 3D movie event of the year' (Total Film).

Tron: Legacy fans battled the elements to get to their local cinemas, even when football stadiums and shopping malls were forced to close.

With more than two weeks of school holidays still to come, and with the Christmas season traditionally a busy cinema-going period for the event movie, Tron: Legacy promises to hold its box office crown own for some time yet.

Meanwhile in the US, the movie opened at number one with a stellar $43.6m, beating off all the competition.

Tron: Legacy has been a huge success in IMAX where fans have been marvelling at seeing the ground breaking 3D effects on the huge screen.

It is the first time IMAX cinema goers have been able to see as much as 35 minutes of visually stunning footage specifically designed to maximize the screen.

Several sequences on the Grid expand in IMAX 3D, eliminating the letterbox effect and thereby allowing audiences to become even more immersed in the massive scope and scale of film.

The year’s most hotly anticipated movie release, Disney’s Tron: Legacy is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen.

Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Oscar®- and Golden Globe®-winner Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer.

When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade, a signal that could only come from his father, he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years.

With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe - a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.

Disney’s Tron: Legacy forges a new frontier in filmmaking with its avant-garde, cutting-edge technology set to blow away today’s audiences.

Among the film’s firsts: it is the first 3D movie to integrate a fully digital head and body based upon an existing actor, creating the younger version of Jeff Bridges’ character; it’s the first movie to make extensive use of self-illuminated costumes; it’s the first movie to create molded costumes using digital sculpture exclusively, creating molds directly from computer files using CNC (Computer Numerical Cutting) technology; and it’s the first 3D movie shot with 35mm lenses and full-35mm chip cameras.
