Tropic Thunder Topples Batman in US

Despite the controversy surrounding Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder the war comedy has ended The Dark Knight's box office domination as it tops the chart in the USA.The film, which also stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr, has been heavily criticised by disability advocate groups as they have protested over the use of the word 'retard' in the film and one scene, in which Stiller and co-star Robert Downey Jr.s' characters poke fun at the mentally disabled.Despite this the film, a spoof, about a group of actors who end up fighting in a real war, has gone on to $26 million in it's opening weekend after ending Batman's month in the top spot. Batman falls to two but has overtaken Star Wars as the second highest grossing movie in America, first place belonging to Titanic.The new chapter in the Star Wars saga animation Star Wars: Clone Wars entered the chart at three with Kiefer Sutherland's new film Mirrors was the third new entry in the top five in at four.The latest Judd Apatow/Seth Rogan partnership rounded off the top five, dropping three spaces.The Sister hood of the Travelling Pants 2 and Step Brothers were both the biggest fallers dropping four places to eight and nine.A fourth new entry, Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, rounded of the top ten.
