Tropic Thunder Holds Onto US Top Spot

Despite the controversy surround it's release Ben Stiller's movie Tropic Thunder has held onto the top spot in American for a second week grossing a further $16 million.The action spoof, which also stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr, that follows a group of actors shooting a war movie who suddenly find themselves in the middle of a real fight had been criticised by disability advocate groups as they have protested over the use of the word 'retard' in the film and one scene, in which Stiller and co-star Robert Downey Jr.s' characters poke fun at the mentally disabled.Comedy The House Bunny was beaten into the number two spot after is grossed $15 million in it's opening weekend and Jason Statham's new film Death Race, a remake of 1975 film Death Race 2000, opened in third.King of the summer box office The Dark Knight had to be content with fourth spot grossing a further $10 million as last week it became the second highest-grossing film of all time in North America.Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animation film to complement the live action movies rounded off the top five, dropping two places from last week's number three.The only other new entry into the top ten was The Longshots starring Ice Cube as an American football coach while Mamma Mia continued it's great summer run ant the box office.The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the third film in the Mummy series finished off the top ten still going well despite poor reviews.1.
