Up Topples Inglourious Basterds Down Under

Pixar's Up has soared to the top of the Australian box office knocking Inglourious Basterds off the top spot.

Already critically acclaimed the movie opened at number one in America and enjoys further success fdown under.

Carl Fredricksen has spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest.

When Carl was a child, he met and eventually married a girl named Ellie who grew up in a small midwestern town.

Ellie always dreamed of exploring the mountains but died before she got a chance. Now, when developers threaten to move him into an assisted living home, Carl decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie

But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life.

Inglourious Basterds' two week reign was brought to an end and had to settle for the number two spot while The Taking of Pelham 123 also fell one place to round off the top three.

Two new entries completed the top five as Aliens in the Attic opened at number four and Charlie & Boots was new at five.

The Soloist was the only other new entry inside the top ten as the Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx drama opened at number nine.

The Ugly Truth was this week's biggest faller as it dropped five places from three to eight.
