Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens has revealed that her fear of heights made it tough to film one of the stunts for her new movie Beastly.

The film is a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast story and sees the actress team up with Alex Pettyfer.

But it was to be one of the stunts that was to be the biggest challenge for The High School Musical star as it forced her to face her fear of heights.

Speaking to ComingSoon the actress said: "I've had one stunt already, which was quite frightening 'cause I'm afraid of heights, and I had to climb up a ladder, hold onto something upside down, they rigged me and I was literally hanging upside down on a pole, and then they would let the latch go, and they'd count '3,2,1' and then I'd let go and fall into Alex's arms.

While Beastly is based on the well known story of Beauty and the Beast the actress believes that the modern twist in the tale will appeal to audiences.

"Our version is very posh and sleek and very sophisticated. It’s supposed to be in an extremely wealthy school, so [my character] Lindy definitely stands out from everyone else.

"[The Beast] slowly starts to follow her, and she kind of takes refuge with him and they just slowly fall for each other, because he ends up having a great soul and kind of wins her over from the sweet things he does for her."

We haven't seen Hudgens on the big screen since Bandslam but before the release of Beastly we get to see the actress in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch.

She is currently filming Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - which sees her team up with Dwayne Johnson and Michael Caine.

Beastly is released 15th April.
