Viggo Mortensen is quitting acting.
The fifty year old actor kicked off his career in television mini series George Washington and has gone on to appear in Carlito's Way, 28 Day and Eastern Promises but is best known for his role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as Aragon.
Despite major success the actor cites the exhausting process of promoting his movies as the major reason behind his decision to quit.
In an interview with The Times he said: "In the past week I’ve been from LA to Japan to Korea to Poland to here. It’s ridiculous! It’s not a healthy way to be. But, as it happens, I’m taking measures to change that.
"No more movies. I haven’t said yes to one in over a year. I’ve been in all these well-received movies and it seems like I should be doing some more, but there’s other things I want to do. It’s not the right time."
He added: "If it all dries up now, I've had a good run."
The actor is currently promoting his new movie Good, which follows the rise of national socialism in Germany and how millions of 'good' and decent people found themselves in a society that spiraled into terrible chaos.
Another movie The Road is currently in post-production and will be released later this year.
Good is released 17th April.
